I installed my recent exhibition in the women’s part of the 15th century Ottoman bath Cifte Amam (meaning: Pair Bath) in Skopje. Bodily Fluids, 1999. Wall installation featuring 167 nursing pads, measuring 190 x 185 cm. CIX gallery, Skopje, Macedonia. This wall installation consists of used nursing pads that I collected while breastfeeding my first baby. The use of a nursing pad, not common in all societies, highlights the differences in cultural approaches to the female body and the various determinants of what is considered 'normal'. In late March 1999, after the launch of NATO's air campaign against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, refugees from Kosovo began to enter Macedonia. Macedonia received 344,500 refugees as a result of the conflict. Words in 3 languages: Albanian, Macedonian and English were printed on the 300,000 pieces of paper.
